Main Characteristics of Circuit Breakers

Overload Protection Capability
A circuit breaker automatically interrupts the circuit when the current exceeds its rated value, preventing cables or electrical equipment from overheating and sustaining damage due to prolonged overload conditions. This constitutes one of the most fundamental-and critical-characteristics of a circuit breaker.


Short-Circuit Protection Capability
In the event of a short circuit, the circuit breaker rapidly disconnects the power supply, thereby preventing high currents from causing equipment damage or initiating a fire. Its response speed is typically faster than that of a fuse, effectively safeguarding the safety of the electrical circuit.


Reusability
Unlike single-use fuses, a circuit breaker can be manually or automatically reset after interrupting a circuit, allowing it to be put back into service. This feature enhances both the economic efficiency and the ease of maintenance associated with the equipment.


Operational Convenience
Circuit breakers can function as manual switches, facilitating circuit inspection and equipment maintenance. In modern electrical systems, certain circuit breakers also support remote control or intelligent monitoring capabilities, offering greater operational flexibility.
