Sealing Performance Of Circuit Breakers

The sealing performance of a circuit breaker is a critical indicator for ensuring its safe and stable operation, a factor that is particularly vital for vacuum circuit breakers and gas-insulated equipment (such as SF₆ circuit breakers). Effective sealing prevents the leakage of internal media and the ingress of external moisture or dust, thereby maintaining the device's insulation integrity and arc-extinguishing capabilities.

 

Circuit breakers typically achieve sealing through the use of sealing rings, welded enclosures, or flanged structures. Vacuum circuit breakers require the maintenance of a high vacuum level within their vacuum interrupters; should a seal fail and the vacuum level drop, the device's switching capacity would be directly compromised. Conversely, SF₆ circuit breakers rely on a gas sealing system to maintain stable internal pressure; any leakage would not only degrade the insulation level but could also jeopardize the safe operation of the equipment.

 

Sealing performance is typically verified through airtightness tests or pressure monitoring-employing methods such as helium leak detection or pressure decay tests-to ensure that the equipment remains free of significant leaks over a specified period. Furthermore, during long-term operation, sealing components-such as sealing rings showing signs of aging or loose connections-must be inspected periodically; any issues identified should be promptly addressed through replacement or tightening to prevent minor defects from escalating into major safety hazards.
