Pressurized air pushes through the arc and moves it away from the contacts. Pressurized air pushes the arc toward the arcing probes and rings. Probes and rings are conductive contacts that can move the arc away from contacts.

The arcing contacts are closer, the arcing probes and coils will be closer, so they will attract the arc. The arc is moved toward the chutes and arcing electrode. The arc moves through the chutes, it is stretched until it is completely extinguished.
